On the groups that take advantage of all open chords (groups 1 & 2 in this article) you can use a capo to transpose the key of the song, and play those same chord shapes higher up the neck. I started with the most simple group of chords I can think of (the G, C, D and Em), and ended with a relatively more complex set of chords (the 2-5-1 progression). ![]() Since this group doesn’t utilize any open chords, you can also use them anywhere on the neck, just like the blues chords I showed above.
